Severe storms like the one we all experienced last December are just one of the outcomes of climate change. Arrowsic now has volunteers working to identify ways we can reduce emissions in our town and how to become better prepared as a community for the future.
The State of Maine awarded funds to the Town of Arrowsic to pay for professional assistance in creating and publishing both a Climate Action Plan that will be voted on at town meeting in June 2024, and a Citizen's Handbook designed to help all of us reduce carbon emissions and become more resilient to climate change. The Arrowsic Conservation Commission (ACC) appointed 10 volunteers to serve on this ad-hoc subcommittee (called the Arrowsic Climate Resilience Committee or ACRC).
We meet monthly or as needed. Once a draft of Climate Action Plan is ready, public workshops and/or meetings will be held to gather feedback from town residents. Our goals are: 1) to have a Climate Action Plan that reflects the diverse needs of the community, and 2) a positive vote adopting the plan at our town meeting in June 2024.
