Make Way for Spring Animals
Name your environmental ill—dams, poaching, megafires—and consider that roads kill more creatures with less fanfare than any of them. -Ben Goldfarb Spring is in full swing and animals are on the move! Whether it’s a porcupine seeking out road salt or a migrating frog on a rainy night, it’s a time of year when our cars become particularly lethal to the critters with whom we share this island. And so, fellow Arrowsicans, the Conservation Commission kindly asks you to slow down on the roads and look out for animals that are just trying to get to the other side. This is especially critical for amphibians on rainy nights when temperatures are above 40°F. (Learn more here about amphibian migration.) We thank you! ![]() |
